Courses at Dehradun Institute of Hospitality

As per surveys conducted to assess requirement of trained manpower for the hospitality sector, it has been established there is greater demand for skilled manpower rather than for managers.

All the hospitality organisations be it a hotel, restaurant, fast food outlet, resort, railways, airlines, cruise liners and other allied industries, all require trained personnel to man their operations. Dehradun Institute of Hospitality offers different trade Certificates to cater to the needs of such establishments which are popular with the student community as it guarantees them jobs in the hospitality industry immediately on completion.

These courses are the core areas of hotel operations. It is open to 10th pass students who must have studied English language as one of the subjects. The Course duration is for 20 weeks followed by 24 weeks of Industrial Training. Institute also conduct mid-term examinations comprising theory and practicals.

Course Objectives:

  1. To develop young men and women into professional experts to manage Hospitality Industry in general and Hotels in particular.
  2. To equip youngsters with conceptual, practical and interpersonal skills and its execution in hospitality related industries.
  3. To develop and encourage the entrepreneurial capabilities of young generation to make them effective change agents.
  4. To meet the demand for trained and professional personnel in the country in the light of new economic and industrial policy of the country.

Certificate courses at DIH shall be of one year. First semester will of a minimum of 18 instructional weeks of 5 days each 4 hours a day (Total contact hours 360). Continuous Internal evaluation during the course period and Final examination & Viva Voce at the end of the semester shall be conducted.

There shall be a semester break of 10 days in addition to the usual Gazetted holidays (shall be communicated though Annual Academic Calendar separately).

Medium of Instructions:

The medium of instruction and examinations shall be English

Eligibility for Admission:

A pass in the 10th or 12th class or equivalent examinations conducted by recognized boards.

Industrial Training:

Every student should undergo Industrial Exposure training for a period not less than twenty four week during their final semester. Student should choose a star hotel (preferably 5 Star Hotel) for this training. A certificate from the respective organization stating the completion of training shall be incorporated in the Training report along with a log book.

The objective of the industrial exposure training is to help the student understand the working of a Hotel and be able to analyse its strengths, weakness, opportunities and the threats.
